Yarn Bombing on State Street!

Our street has been "yarn bombed" and we love it!

We also have spruced up our street with GREEN GRASS!  Who would have thought but the change is remarkable.  We see people all day walk down the sidewalk, stop and bend down to touch the unknown substance called green grass.

We also are loving the color in Sugar. Sugar.  Cupcakes bring smiles to everyone's face as they walk through the door....plus the smell is heavenly!

AND......

Sugar. Sugar. is now creating wedding cakes!

Don't forget the other shops that make State Street so special.

She's a winner!

We are excited to show off this proud winner from our "The Grass is Always Greener in Downtown Salem" campaign.  What a lucky girl!

Our summer proved to be much greener on State Street and our shoppers commented on how much they LOVED walking along our quaint little street.  We have more planned for this coming year!

The Grass is Greener in Downtown Salem!

and you must stop by to see us on State Street.

We've been busy "planting grass" and going green in front of our businesses and hope you all can stop down to see how it has softened the hard edge of that concrete jungle.

Here are a few shots by William Bragg with more coming for the week.  Stop into our shops and enjoy our "going green".

Art Builds Community

Please join the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in building Salem’s reputation as a vibrant and successful arts destination. For the month of May, the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery’s show; Beyond the Gallery Door – Art Builds Community will be showing the work of 14 Salem artists. By going beyond the gallery door and into these artists studios, the gallery hopes to enlighten our community of the importance of these artists, how they enrich our community and the work they do to build Salem into a creative and cultural hub for the arts.
Each of these talented artists were photographed in their studio settings by William Bragg from Salem’s William Bragg Photography. These photos will accompany the artwork by these artists for this upcoming show. A completed coffee table book will also be available showing a view into their art studios as well as their artwork.
Included artists are; Emily Stuart, John VanDreal, Dave Nichols, Sandra Nichols, Robert Bibler, Carol Hausser, Kristin Kuhns, Sue-Del McCulloch, Nancy Lindburg, Bonnie Hull, Jed Thomas, Terry Melton, Robert Hess and Susan Trueblood Stuart.

William Bragg, photographer, friend and family guy....
In the studio

Cool studio!

Meg awaits her "photo shoot"!

Next is Janet from MaValise, she's the owner and she has a wonderful eye for what Salem likes for a downtown shopping boutique.

A peak inside.

Love these colorful soaps!

The Arbor!  We'll have to check back with the photo of Kelly...she's the new shop owner for the Arbor (it's been almost a year) and she's done amazing things inside.  Her sense of taste is fantastic and you must stop into see what she's done.  Also...if you miss Kelly, you'll probably have the opportunity to meet her other peeps.  Marilyn and Kathy will greet you with a warm smile...Lucky State Street.

Meet Mary Lou from the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery!

The gallery has a new show each month with openings on First Wednesday.
Mary Lou believes in opening the gallery doors into the community by creating shows that intrigue, entertain and support Northwest Artists.
The show this month is photographs from her Cuba trip that was taken last November where she traveled with 9 photographers.  Stop into see these stunning photos of Cuba, they will take you back to 1959....people, families, countryside and living.
